Why give up the vertical Activity Bar?

A big fan of vertical Activity Bar as well as vertical Tabs who started using since day 1 feels super sad seeing vertical Activity Bar support getting discontinued.

I am also a user of the vertical tabs for me feel amazing in my workflow, like the browser tabs that I use in vertical mode too, I don't understand why removing this option

the vertical activity bar is the main reason why I use Edge for web dev, I guess I'll have to completely bin off edge once it's removed. Hope this decision is walked back on.

It's bizarre how frequently this kind of thing happens. For posterity, the reason I started using Edge was because of (ⅰ) its novel and thoughtful integration of vertical tabs and (ⅱ) its unique implementation of devtools (mainly the vertical activity bar), both dramatically improving efficiency of screen space allocation and general ease of use.

Regarding ⅰ—while I still view Edge's version of vertical tabs (option to remove title-bar, expand/collapse on hover) as the reference archetype, alternatives now exist among first-class browser offerings (e.g. Brave) which follow Edge's paradigm (early on, the viable alternatives I tried were Vivaldi and Firefox, but both required custom CSS to some extent—the Vivaldi was further along already and is easier to customize, while Firefox was a little more tedious, mainly because it limited how much custom CSS it will load, so I had to remove some existing customizations, it still required an extension, it usually required adjustments with every update, and there was no fix for the clumsy Firefox multi-tab manipulation).

Regarding ⅱ—the vertical activity bar in devtools further distinguished Edge and was even more difficult to replicate in other browsers. I realize devtools isn't commonly used by the general public, and checking and customizing every update is probably time-consuming, but a variety of little distinguishing features might be the difference in trying a different browser and just sticking with Edge for a lot of people (especially as annoying bugs inevitably pop up and invite investigation of the latest browser offerings).
