Support for older versions of VS Code

I am using Amazon SageMaker Code Editor for some R development. Code Editor is based on VS Code 1.90.1 which is not supported by R syntax. Is it possible for the version range to be extended further please?

Setting a Code dependency that high is really problematic in remote environment using web version of VSCode or Positron.
This has also the downside of making the base "vscode-r" extension minimal Code version to bump from 1.75 to 1.96 (see REditorSupport/vscode-R#1626).

A more reasonable requirement would be a one/two-year old version (1.85 roughly).

FWIW, this extension is about Posit Air (not only but at least) and it uses 1.90.

What in this extension requires 1.96 API?

CC @randy3k sorry to ping you on this, but I believe this need a bit of traction as this is likely to impact private companies ability to use this extension when using tools such as web hosted version of Code OSS (Posit/Google Workbench, etc.)
