How to list versions of Python available

In dpv, Python versions are split in two:

• Versions available - not installed but can be
• Versions installed

Versions available

The available versions include versions that are either already installed or that can be installed.

Command: dpv versions

command: available python versions

pyenv: 3.10.7* 3.10-dev* 3.9.14* 3.8.14 3.7.14 3.6.15* 3.5.10 3.4.10 3.3.7 3.2.6 3.1.5 2.7.18*
homebrew: 3.11.2* 3.10.10* 3.9.16* 3.8.16* 3.7.16*

Available versions are either versions that are already installed or versions that you can install.
The * signalizes versions that are already installed.

💡 It's important to mention that this list only include CPython versions, and not other variants such as PyPy for example. You can still retrieve the full list, just continue to the next section.

Versions available (extended list)

The extended list will return a very long list including all variants of Python such as PyPy, MicroPython, Stackless, and so on.

Command: dpv versions -a

$ dpv versions -a

pyenv: 3.12-dev 3.11-dev 3.11.0rc2 3.10.7* ... micropython-1.19.1 ... pypy3.8-7.3.6 ... stackless-2.7.12 ... (this list has been truncated since it's too big)

The * signalizes versions that are already installed.

Versions installed

Include versions already installed by one of the installation methods like pyenv or brew

Command: dpv versions --installed

The * signalizes versions that are already installed.
