This may initially seem like a stupid idea at first.

I use a hybridized gradle setup to compile my modded content as an offline download and a legfab mod. I need a proxy at the moment to allow eagler players of course. You should be able to use mixins to do your packet magic.

Legacy Fabric? Yeah it works on 1.12. I won't be able to make a hybrid template until U3 is out though.
