Cannot join with !!null error

Hi there,

I'm trying to use shellcheck to validate my Gitlab CI component files.

However I'm hitting the following error:

My guess is that the use of the $ sign in the selector value is breaking things, but that's how the job is defined in the Gitlab component...

Any suggestions on how I can work-around this?
