The requirements outlined in https://docs.brew.sh/Acceptable-Formulae#niche-or-self-submitted-stuff are there to make sure we don't package someone's 30 minutes script that nobody wants and won't be maintained. If you have another way to prove there is demand for this application in Homebrew, a maintainer could waive the requirement. |

I'll be releasing my VisualDiffer application as open source in a couple of weeks.
I'm also the legitimate owner of the website visualdiffer.com.
The application has been around for 15 years, but it was commercially available on the Mac App Store. I've now removed it from the store to make it open source and downloadable via homebrew.
I read that to be added to the official formulas, you need to have a certain number of downloads on GitHub. So, should I give up and try again when this requirement is met? Actually, I was banking on Brew for downloads.
