Description of issue

The Homebrew version of plplot appears to have been compiled without Ada bindings. Is that correct? Ada is supported at https://plplot.sourceforge.net/.

There's no Ada compiler on Homebrew. That probably needs to be added first for what you want to be useful.

Which in turn would require someone who wants Ada to exist in Homebrew to add the necessary formula: https://docs.brew.sh/Adding-Software-to-Homebrew

I'm not a reliable witness here, but I think (1) GNAT (the gcc Ada compiler) is self-compiling, and (2) IIRC the MacPorts group had a problem with this some years ago but they only build from source.

Maybe Homebrew would allow copying GNAT binaries from outside the Homebrew world and make them a cask.

Formulae are not allowed to depend on casks, because cask upstreams can drop assets at any time, so reproducible builds can't be done reliably. (If I remember correctly, this is blocked at the formula syntax level, so it's a non-starter even in third-party taps.)

The way forward would be for someone to work up a GNAT formula that can be bottled in core, then the rest should be fairly straightforward.
