Easiest way to pack the system tray into a function suitable for embedding elsewhere? #178

Ideally, I would like to have my system tray icons in the mode line, since they annoy me in the minibuffer. Is there a way to pack the tray into any kind of object suitable for including into another modular system, for example in a telephone-line segment? Alternatively, can I get specific icons (and their on-click behaviour) and just put those into my segments? |

Tray icons are actually tiny X windows, not just images/icons. There's no good way to embed them in a mode-line segment, unfortunately. Tray icons aren't actually "in" the minibuffer, we just place the window OVER the minibuffer. |
