Counting lines in JavaScript

Some tools consider \u2028 as increasing the line number, others do not. It seems that most editors don't actually render it as a line break, but some browser devtools increase the line number when they see it.

It feels like something we could have a say on, maybe?

My 2 cents:

1. the \u2028 character is unambiguously defined as a line-terminator
2. "Line number" is not really defined in the standard, (it only appears when discussing that CR+LF should be considered a single line terminator element).

I'd say this leaves us with the only logical conclusion (from the perspective of a standard): a line number is defined by the number of line separators. (Plus 1, Dijkstra lost this one)

But "any choice" is even more important than "the right choice" IMHO.

What current tools do is not all too relevant IHMO but I'd say that if you care to use \u2028 as a line-separator or are in an environment that does so you'd better have an editor that actually displays that as a line break in the first place

For anyone looking to see how the LS (U+2028) line break renders in an editor, here's an example in Xcode.
Note that while the text wraps, the line number doesn't increment.
