🚀 STAPLE v1.0.0 — MVP Release

We’re excited to announce the public release of STAPLE: Science Tracking Across the Project Lifespan — an open-source project management platform built specifically for researchers. This MVP version includes core functionality for managing research workflows with transparency, coordination, and metadata at the center.

🔍 What is STAPLE?

STAPLE bridges the gap between scientific work and scientific documentation. It offers robust tools for:

  • ✅ Tracking tasks, contributors, and project outputs
  • 📄 Managing metadata through editable, schema-compliant forms
  • 👥 Capturing contributor roles (e.g., via CRediT)
  • 📦 Generating shareable project summaries and FAIR metadata exports
  • 🔁 Encouraging transparent workflows with audit trails and review systems

✨ Highlights in This Release

  • Dashboard Overviews: Personalized home and project dashboards with task summaries, project activity, and overdue alerts.
  • Task Management: Create, assign, track, and approve tasks—individually or by team—with logging and metadata integration.
  • Form System: Build or import structured metadata forms (including JSON support) and assign them to tasks.
  • Contributors & Roles: Track contributor participation, assign roles, and view individual summaries with role distribution charts.
  • Project Summaries:
    • Internal export: self-contained bundles for archiving or review
    • External viewer: share project snapshots via uploadable JSON
  • Milestone Tracking: Gantt chart support with milestones linked to tasks and grant objectives.
  • Customization: Modular dashboard widgets, tag-based views, and role-based permissions.
  • Notifications & Comments: In-app and email alerts, plus threaded task discussions.
  • JSON-LD & schema.org support: Metadata outputs are discoverable and web-friendly.
