(by the way, I am super happy that you found my project. I am very grateful for all the work you and others have done on Tasmota. I use it on several Sonoff's and it is amazing how stable it is)

Talking about stability we have best experience with

using other combination has "glitches".
We are still using core 2.6.1 the later cores does not bring any benefit (for us).
What works nicely is in stage/core the feature OTA upgrade with gziped firmware bins.
